A recent study by Visit Flanders, conducted in collaboration with the tourist offices of six Flemish cities, clearly demonstrates that association conferences generate significant added value for both the local economy and the image of the host city. Bruges stands out in particular as a congress destination, receiving excellent evaluations from both participants and organisers.
The study focused on association conferences: events organised by professional or scientific associations around a specific field or theme. Both conference participants and organisers were surveyed about their experience and spending behaviour.
High Satisfaction Among Conference Participants in Bruges
The results speak for themselves. Conference participants rate Bruges with an average score of 8.9 out of 10, expressing high satisfaction with the quality of the conference venues, the friendliness of the local community and the overall accessibility of the city. Notably, 85% of participants indicate that they would like to return to Bruges in the future, even outside a conference context.
Organisers are equally enthusiastic, awarding Bruges an impressive 9.5 out of 10. They particularly value the city’s historic character, its compact and walkable city centre, the wide range of leisure activities and the strong focus on sustainability.
